Last week we had a 6.2 earthquake centered near the Poas Volcano about 20 miles from where we live. It was a very destructive to that area of Costa Rica and many people are missing and many people have died. Please pray for those affected by this earthquake.
We were in the car on the way to Irazu when the earthquake happened. By God’s grace, we did not feel a thing. I really feel that was such a blessing for our children especially. We only experienced the aftershocks and I think that they thought they were pretty fun. I am glad that the children were not fearful and still aren’t because of this. We had no damage to our house or the area that we live in San Francisco de Dos Rios on the southeast corner of San Jose. The longer we are here, the more we fall in love with Costa Rica and it’s people. They have sound buildings and we are so thankful for the care that the builders have taken so that there was not more destruction than there was.
Matthew 24: 4-8
4Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 5For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains.
We are reminded through these events of Christ’s words. Please seek the Lord while He may be found. Make sure that those that are teaching you are teaching truth from God’s Word. That is our mission here in Costa Rica. To help them see the truth in God’s Word. To teach God’s grace so that they may come from underneath the false teachings of those here in Costa Rica. Christ has paid the price for our sins. He has finished that work on the cross. We need to simply have faith in Him and seek to learn and grow in Him daily. He will hold us. We cannot keep ourselves in His hand. No amount of works could ever get us to Heaven. Trust in the Lord today as your Savior.
