Break My Heart for What Breaks Yours

That has been my prayer.  One of my favorite songs says, “….break my heart for what breaks Yours….show me how to love like You have loved me……everything I am for Your Kingdom’s cause….”  I truly want to see the world as the Lord sees it and love others the way that He has and does love me.  Since I have started praying for this, the Lord has put me in situations to see Him minister to others and show me how we can minister to others.  Over the last two months I have gotten the privilege of people who are suffering under the trials of this world to share with me and I have seen how hard this life can be.  We were in the middle of all of the tornadoes in Alabama that came through and we drove up on houses where a tornado had just ripped people’s houses and lives apart and they were just standing with their hands on their heads in shock.  In trying to prevent a latino woman from having an abortion, I saw young women coming out of the abortion clinic crying because they had just had an abortion.  It was a sight that I think I will never forget and it broke my heart.

Now the question is, what do I do…. how do I respond to Him breaking my heart for what breaks His?  The first thought that comes to my mind is LOVE.  God loved me when I was unlovable.  He has given me hope in His love and His promises.  I have faith in His character.  He has granted me grace in my most difficult times to endure and even worship Him when the world thinks otherwise.  Therefore, I am to extend His love to others.  I am to share His hope and promises with others.  I am to share and teach others about His character so that they too can run to Him in their time of need.

My challenge to you – Will you open your eyes to see as He sees and love as He loves?  Will you allow Him to break your heart for what breaks His?  Will you help others by sharing the ultimate gift of salvation through Christ and not keep it to yourself?

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17  ” 16 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, 17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.”

Please listen to this song and be challenged to love people right where they are and love them with the love that you have been given!!

Update and Prayer Requests

Hi guys!!  Whew!!!  What a busy whirlwind we have been in lately!!  I
apologize for not updating everyone in a couple of weeks.  We have
been tremendously busy!  We have over the past weeks met with new
churches, already supporting churches, possible future ministry
partners, spoke with around 300 AWANA children, I (Courtenay) attended
a women’s retreat with Kay Arthur and the women of Mt. Moriah, and
Jacob has even played in a couple of church softball games!  In the
middle of all of that, we have been doing home school and trying to
visit with friends and family!  We are currently in North Carolina at
a Church Planting seminar that will last until Thursday.

I tell you all of that to let you know that we really have appreciated
all of your prayers and we ask that you continue to pray for us…..
1.  We need energy.
2.  Quality rest when we can get it.
3.  Remembrance on my part to take my medicine – last week I forgot my
weekly dose of Methotrexate and I got in a lot of pain.
4.  We are attending a church planting seminar until Thursday
afternoon.  My parents are keeping the children and doing their home
school with them.
5.  We will be traveling on Friday to pick up the children and then
from there, we will drive to Mississippi.
6.  We are speaking Easter Sunday in Iuka, MS, then we will speak in
Alabama, then we will head back to SC probably on the following
Thursday.
7.  That we would share God’s love and grace with all of those that
the Lord places in our paths.
8.  As we share about the Lord’s work in Costa Rica and in our family
that others would be drawn to and/or closer to our Heavenly Father.

We love each of you and cherish your prayers,
Jacob and Court

Romans 15:4-6

4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us,
so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the
encouragement they provide we might have hope.

5 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same
attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, 6 so that
with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our
Lord Jesus Christ.

We are back in the USA!!

Hi guys!!  Well, we have been back in the States now for a week and it has been packed with activity!!  🙂  Thanks to your prayers, our flights were the smoothest yet.  Zorro (our dog) did fantastic on the plane, I think most passengers were shocked when we were deplaning and they realized we had a dog, because he did not make a peep!  And the customs officials were great!  They thought he was the cutest and were so sweet to him!!  We rented a car and drove from Orlando to Charleston and arrived around 3am!  It was very easy and it was nice to wake up at mom and dad’s house!!  We were able to spend a couple of days in Charleston.  Mom and dad and I walked the Stono bridge a couple of times (3 miles) in preparation for the Cooper River Bridge Walk.  And we were able to spend my birthday with my parents!!  It was a great day!  Then we headed to Easley and got settled in at the Boles wonderful house!  We got to worship with our family at Mount Moriah Baptist and that is always a treasure and treat, something that we do not take for granted – being able to worship with other believers in English!!  🙂  This week will be a busy week!  I am finishing creating our newest video.  I will speak tonight with a women’s mission group and then we are speaking tomorrow night in Belton, then I speak at the IABC conference Saturday at 11:15am, and then we are speaking at a missions meeting at Mt. Airy Sunday night!  Please be in prayer about all of these!  Please pray that God would be glorified and others would draw closer to God through our sharing.

We will continue to keep you posted and covet your prayers!
Court

Mount Moriah Baptist Church Costa Rica Team 2011

If you would like to check out the photos we took during Mount Moriah Baptist’s trip to Costa Rica, check them out at this link…..

We were so blessed by this team coming to serve with us in Costa Rica.  Not only did they share their testimonies of our Lord’s  glorious work in their lives, conduct Bible studies, lead singing and play with the children, but most importantly, they shared God’s love with the Ticos and our family!  What a joy and privilege to have them!

He is faithful

This is a blog that we were hoping not to write.  But in the end, we want to show how God can work and, we fully believe, will work all of this out for His glory.  So I will tell you all about yesterday.  God’s timing is perfect.  His ways are perfect.  And all He does is good and for His glory…..

Yesterday, Jacob went to do the Bible study up in Santa Rosa.  It is a Bible study that he has had up there for the past 6 months or so.  While he was gone, I received an email that we had been waiting on because it was either going to be really amazing or show us that the Lord was going to have to do something really amazing in the near future.  I opened it, and my stomach dropped.  It was not as we had hoped and it was going to take God to move in the situation in an amazing way and I started waiting on Jacob to arrive so that I could deliver the news.  He is usually gone to this study for 2 hours….the time ticked by…..it was now around 3 hours when he finally came through the door……

He was beaming.  He was beside himself, so excited.  He said he had great news!  He said that a young man named Nelson had prayed to receive Christ and to quote Nelson, “Hoy es el dia de salvacion!”  Today is the day of salvation!  We were praising the Lord and still are for this latest new brother in Christ!  Thank you Lord, salvation is from you and your free gift!  🙂

Now it was my turn to share my news….. For the first time since 2008, we are without funds and actually have a negative balance with Global Outreach.  We have been running $1000 short a month, however, each time we have gotten low, the Lord has sent thousands of dollars to replenish our funds without us saying a word or asking for it.  We had been praying that this would be the case again.  In God’s providence this has not happened.  Not only were we $1000 short as usual, but we were short around $2000 in January, which completely depleted our funds.

We sat the kids down.  Talked to them about the situation.  Then all 5 of us prayed together.  (So sweet to hear the kids pray – even more in that they prayed first for my health and second for God’s provision and guidance in this situation)  We were overwhelmed by God’s peace.

It was like He was telling us, “Just wait and watch.  You are in my hands, so are your finances and I love the Ticos and I love you so don’t take up this burden.  Leave it with me.  You keep doing the work and I’ll keep providing.”

We have decided to share about our finances with you all because we want you all to be able to rejoice with us when we are able to return to Costa Rica after our time in the States.  We want you all to see God’s hand at work.

What do we need?  One thing….we need you all to pray.  Please join us in praying over this and we will keep you posted.  🙂

Another prayer request is that we are hosting our second team next week!  We are so excited about that!  A group is coming from our home church Mount Moriah Baptist and it includes Jacob’s parents (the kids are counting down the days)!  Please pray for this team’s work here.  They will be here from the 15th – 25th!

Thank you in advance for your prayers.  Let’s rest in the Lord and watch His faithful hand work.  We love you all.  His Joy is our strength.  Our main message to the Ticos is salvation by grace and faith alone.  And we will remain here working with them by God’s grace.  To Him be the glory and honor.

A night we will treasure and our week with Glenwood!

Not sure if I can adequately put into words the experiences of this past week!  But I will try.  🙂

A team of 14 arrived from Glenwood Baptist in Easley, SC this past Tuesday.  They immediately set to work with a visit to Victor and Melba’s (the orphanage we work with) and we all met up to firm up plans for the week.  Through out their week, they did prayer walking in different villages, led Bible studies with families we currently already have studies with, visited with new families, played with the children near the Bible studies, worked in our house with different projects and worked on our car.  We also planned a time for all of the people that Jacob does Bible studies with each week to get together for the first time to meet eachother and worship together for the first time.  We have had this on our hearts for some time, but for one reason or another, have not been able to do it.  I wrote up invitations and as Jacob and the team went out, they passed out the invitations to those he has been working with…… Dale McCoig (pastor of Glenwood Baptist and this team’s leader) wrote about the days events.  I am going to paste it here….

God’s work IN us today has been – according to everyone on the team – INDESCRIBABLE!!!

So because of that here are just a few details from our day.

Today we sought to be a blessing to the Guzman children by providing Happy Meals and a fun time at “the ranch.” But, since there were twenty-six very precious children and Mrs. Melba, we were outnumbered and were the ones who were truly blessed!:)!

This evening we had an amazing worship experience! Jacob and Courtenay were not the only ones shedding tears of joy and praise as more than fifty Tico’s from different home Bible study groups worshipped together for the very first time. Included in the experience were Marco, who became a disciple of Christ on Tuesday, and Luis, who became a disciple of Christ yesterday! It is impossible for most of us to do. But just try to imagine becoming a new follower of Jesus – leaving behind your sin, your family’s beliefs, and a lifetime of tradition – and having no church family to love you, encourage you and help you grow in your faith. This is the reality of the new believers who come to Christ here on Irazu. This desperate reality is what caused Jacob and Courtenay to be given the vision by our Lord of tonight’s worship celebration. We are praying that the connections made tonight will be used by God to birth a church for His newly adopted children in this area.
PLEASE PRAY…because “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few”!

This night was the culmination of many people’s work and years of it.  It has been on the hearts of many that a church will one day be created here on Irazu.  There are so many people that I wish could have shared this night with us.  But I know that you were with us in spirit and prayer.  I hope I never forget this night.  Thank you to all of you that support us prayerfully and financially so that these people can continue to grow in the Lord and one day develop a church.  Our prayer is that this is just the beginning.

Psalm 67

1 May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face shine on us
2 so that your ways may be known on earth,
   your salvation among all nations.

 3 May the peoples praise you, God;
may all the peoples praise you.
4 May the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for you rule the peoples with equity
and guide the nations of the earth.
5 May the peoples praise you, God;
may all the peoples praise you.

 6 The land yields its harvest;
   God, our God, blesses us.
7 May God bless us still,
so that all the ends of the earth will fear him.

Our week with the World Racers!!

The World Race TeamWe had the privilege of working along side a team from the World Race this past week!  These young people spend 11 months in 11 different countries serving the Lord!!  It is a fantastic organization and this group represented their organization fabulously!!  We have experienced unusual cold temperatures in Costa Rica this week, however, we were still able to get a lot accomplished!!  The team shared their testimonies in the Bible studies in Cipreses and Santa Rosa!  They also did some planting with Jorge and also help dig out new irrigation for the new plants.  They also got to go the Victor and Melba’s house and visit and love on the children there!!  They also made us the welcome sign that you see in this picture!  This group just brought us so much joy and they expressed God’s love to everyone they came across with their joy!!  When I think of them, I just think of the joy of the Lord shining!!  🙂

You guys know how I love to cook and so I also cooked them a Christmas feast since they did not know for sure how they would be spending Christmas!!  I look forward to keeping up with these guys and seeing how the Lord uses their journey over the next 9 months!!
